WHEN approximately 65 000 foreign delegates converge on Johannesburg at the end of August this year for the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), local businesses will have the opportunity to showcase their wares at the SA Business Week. The latter Exhibition from 30 August to 2 September 2002 has official accreditation as a side event of the WSSD. "SA Business Week serves as a platform for businesses from all sectors of the economy to reach an unprecedented number of people", says Liz Hart, Project Group Manager, South Africa RAI, the exhibition organisers. The venue is Gallagher Estate and will be served by the official shuttle service from the Sandton Convention Centre.
The SA Business Week includes the following categorical exhibitions:
• The Matchmaking Opportunity Exhibition, which aims to generate profitable commercial opportunities by bringing suitable buyers and sellers together.
• The BIZ Expo, which offers aspiring entrepreneurs and small to medium business owners the opportunity to view a wide range of franchising, agency and distributorship possibilities from both local and international exhibitors.
• The Black Economic Empowerment Exhibition, which provides a platform for black businesses to interact with decision makers and investors.
• ESKOM Small Business Opportunities Exhibition, which assists the micro business sector to participate in formal exhibitions.
"Networking and business opportunities will be the premier focus of SA Business Week. To facilitate meaningful interaction, the exhibition organisers have set up an online diary system to allow visitors to book a specific time with exhibitors. Black business and SMME's will be the subject of particular attention during SA Business Week, with a dedicated pavilion to offer new opportunities for these sectors,” Hart elucidates. SA Business Week already has more than 80 exhibitors - including 15 foreign embassies - signed up for its Matchmaking Opportunity Exhibition and BIZ Expo.
The international exposure that exhibitors receive at the exhibition makes it indeed an ideal opportunity for investment to flow into the country, for strategic partnerships to be formed, for export orders to be placed and for an exchange of information that would not otherwise be possible.
Meanwhile The WaterDome, running 28 August - 3 September, will be the central exhibition venue for all water-related activities at the WSSD. Its aim is to increase the profile of water and sanitation as a key issue in sustainable development and presents an outstanding opportunity for public and private stakeholders in the water sector to hold workshops, launch papers and exhibit their activities, policies, initiatives, technologies and products.
South Africa RAI is part of the RAI International Communications Group with its head office in Amsterdam. The company has been operating in South Africa for four years and is currently one of the largest exhibition organisers in the country. Other events that South Africa RAI co-ordinate include Decorex, Indaba and the Supersport show.
