The property group Platinum Global from Bloemfontein is undertaking a survey of retired people for a proposed new affordable retirement village to be constructed in the Goldfields close to Welkom. The developers are looking to interview retired people over the age of 65 who live in homes that they own with a market value in excess of R700 000. The new development is planned to give them a purpose built home, great security, wonderful facilities including a health centre, shopping, own library, etc. plus a level of security not seen in other retirement villages. Subject to the results of the survey up to 1 600 units are planned with 6 000 m² of health care and shopping areas. The developers are based in Cape Town and Bloemfontein.
It is estimated that there are more than 740 000 retired people in the Free State and Gauteng and that statistically 90% of people over 65 are not being financially ready to retire.
