This pilot project, which costs about R12 000 per month, is being funded entirely by ADT for the last few months to prove that results in the reduction of crime can be achieved. In the February issue of the Park Road Central Police Crime Awareness newsletter it is quoted: “Crime is on the decline in the Westdene area, however, should the roleplayers lose interest the situation has the potential of deteriorating again”.
Mr Graeme Elliott, branch manager of ADT Security Bloemfontein, believes that one of the major contributing factors to this decline in the crime rate in Westdene has been the ADT bicycle patrol service. Elliott says: “ These bicycle wardens are highly visible and extremely mobile and are in 24 hour radio contact with the ADT control center. Should any problem be encountered an ADT armed reaction vehicle can be on the scene within minutes”. Elliott says that since the inception of the patrol a number of arrests have been made in the area. He says that ADT can unfortunately not continue to fund this project indefinitely and he urges residents and businesses to join this community project and assist in turning Westdene into a crime free zone.
It is with this in mind that ADT calls on all businesses and homes in the area to support this crime fighting initiative. If through teamwork a success can be made of the Westdene Pilot Project, it could serve as a model and be extended into other suburbs in Bloemfontein.
At a very low monthly cost of R50.00 per household and R80.00 per business vat exclusive, the following services are included: 24 hour patrol service / 24 hour emergency control centre / 24 hour armed reaction service / Netcare 911 emergency paramedical back-up service / Rendezvous service.
