The historical CW Malan Building in Bloemfontein, at the corner of Maitland and Hanger Street - long not only a landmark in the city, but for decades the HQ of Spoornet (and before that SAR+H) in the region - is being completely revamped and simultaneously more than doubled in size. Vacated by Spoornet and to be leased to the Free State Dept. of Health as their new head office, the new complex is being revamped at a project cost of some R 80 million. It is estimated that the Dept. of Health would be able to move in by May 2004. As such this development serves as a major boost to the depressed Bloem CBD.
