Aldam Estate - New chapter dawning in leisure and conference tourism in the Free State

• Johann Dannhauser

An exciting new chapter in what tourism in the Free State offers for the leisure and conferencing markets, has been entered into with the acquisition by Venue Experts Africa of the previously known Aldam Resort on the banks of the Allemanskraal Dam and its subsequently renaming to Aldam Estate.
Venue Experts Africa is also the highly dynamic managing agent for two top resorts in the Limpopo Province, namely Mabalingwe Nature Reserve and Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate.
As one of the leading hospitality management companies in South Africa, Venue Experts Africa believes what makes the enterprise different, is the wonderful diversity and tenacity of its people, allowing them to harness their various talents into a focused programme, thus enriching not only the quality of their own lives, but also the lives of the people they do business with.
At Aldam Estate one can experience the tranquil expanse of water, fresh air, the haunting cry of a fish eagle as it skims the water and much, much more, all in one seamless visit.
Aldam is located only 160 km from Bloemfontein, 70 km from Kroonstad and Welkom and 250 km from Johannesburg on the N1 South, thus a highly convenient midway between north and south in South Africa.
Aldam Estate is home to a multitude of indigenous species of wildlife such as buffalo, giraffe, black wildebeest and others. Game drive opportunities at Aldam Estate is an experience of its own amidst the expanse of water, the undulated Free State landscape and roaming game. The resort is also adjacent to the well-known Willem Pretorius Game Reserve, home to even more game and wildlife such as white rhino, buffalo, etc.
Overlooking the Allemanskraal Dam, Aldam Estate is a fresh-water angler's paradise, with abundant carp, barbel, mudfish, yellow fish and others. Regular national, provincial and club angling competitions are held, with something for the entire family whilst dad concentrates on his fishing.
Aldam Estate offers holidaymakers a variety of accommodation options, ranging from self-catering thatched rondavels and family houses to a splendid guesthouse. School groups, sporting teams and large family groups can be accommodated in a self-catering youth hostel, with it's own conference facility, kitchen and recreation area.
For the enthusiastic camper, a shady caravan park, offering 85 serviced stands, awaits you. The ample ablution facilities are conveniently located throughout the park.
Aldam Estate offers no less than five well-equipped conference rooms, together with a number of breakaway rooms, being able to accommodate any group from 10-300 delegates.
A wide variety of leisure and team-building activities are available, including water sport facilities to your heart's desire on the dam. Other outdoor facilities include tennis courts, netball courts, trampolines, jukskei, swimming pools and a super tube.
For those interested to explore historic and cultural sites, in close proximity to Aldam Estate is amongst others the Sand River Monument, the historical Le Goya Ruins at the Willem Pretorius Nature Reserve, the Voortrekker Monument at Winburg, etc.
