Fezile Dabi signalling
In this edition the Fezile Dabi District Municipality is making a significant input about the growth and development summit held in the district recently, thereby signalling its willingness and readiness to move as far as coordinated and inclusive development is concerned.
Obviously a lot of preparation and hard work has gone into the summit process and for that the district municipality should be commended. Now is the time for all stakeholders, especially the private sector, to join hands and implement measures to tangibly effect development in the northern Free State region.
The Fezile Dabi district is the second strongest developing region in the Free State, after Motheo and it has a lot going for it. The Sasol Group of Companies at Sasolburg is a tremendous force, while the Vredefort Dome Area has of course huge potential, providing it is managed effectively. Parys is a boom town, while Kroonstad also has strong potential, provided municipality and local private sector can find each other. A town like Heilbron is also currently sending out promising developmental signs.
It is sincerely hoped that all this potential in the Fezile Dabi district will be harnessed in a way that will take economic growth and development in the region to heights it has never experienced before.
Me.
The voice of reason
“As regards race and the 'right skin colour', it is necessary to focus more on quality. We cannot take another 10 years to ensure quality”, Prof Thandwa Mthembu, rector and vice-chancellor of the Central University of technology, Free State (CUT) is quoted as saying.
How true! His premises – in line with what the Free State Business Bulletin has been advocating for a long time – is that it is non-sensical to sacrifice development, productivity and progress in general interest by favouring a lesser qualified and skilled candidate at the expense of a more qualified and better skilled candidate just because of skin colour.
The disastrous effects of raising skin colour as the ultimate criterium are becoming more and more evident in terms of (lack of) service delivery around us.
What we are talking about, is the detriment of racial discrimination (our words).
May the voice of reason begin to take effect!
